about

This is the first release under my own name, which is weird for me. I have always played in a band or enjoyed the emotional distance achieved from releasing music using a project name. These songs, though. These are the right songs. The primitive John Cale inspired staccato piano parts. The growling fuzzy bass lines that blend and harmonize with the raunchy guitars. Synths that oscillate and squonk around tight drum fills.

The problem I needed to solve was what to do about adding vocals, as I couldn't do these songs justice with my singing voice. After hearing Phil Manzanera's solo album Diamond Head which features guest vocalists on every track, I was inspired to try this as well. Any doubts I had about whether this would produce a coherent set of songs were erased when I received the incredible vocal performances you are now hearing. It was a delight to hear how other people interpreted these songs, and I enjoyed being able to revise my parts in service of the vocals.

Making fun quirky art damaged songs with my friends was a joy. I am going to do more of it, and I am pleased to be able to share it with you.
